Black & Veatch Annual Charity Golf Tournament Surpasses $1 Million in Total Support for Children’s Mercy Hospitals

Children’s Mercy Presents “$1 Million Event Award” to Black & Veatch

Overland Park, Kan. (May 13, 2008) – Black & Veatch announced today that its 12th annual charity golf tournament’s donations have resulted in more than $1 million in support since the event’s inception for Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo.

This year’s event, held Monday at the Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, raised contributions of $210,000. This marked another consecutive year of record tournament contributions for Children’s Mercy.

"Through our Building a World of Difference® Foundation, Black & Veatch, with the support of its global clients, business partners, vendors and professionals, is pleased to be able to combine with Children’s Mercy to help make a difference in the lives of children as we work to improve the quality of life for families in communities around the world," said Len Rodman, Chairman, President and CEO of Black & Veatch. "This great event serves to further highlight the fact that Children’s Mercy provides the highest level of medical care, technology, services, equipment and facilities in promoting the health and well-being of children."

Black & Veatch has worked with Children’s Mercy to provide proceeds from the event for a specific area of need at the hospital. This year’s event contributions will go toward the purchase of new state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment for Children’s Mercy. Past tournament contributions have funded the hospital's emergency department, robotic surgery, intensive care nursery, Children’s Mercy South expansion, transportation and research.

“This wonderful event has supported numerous efforts to build upon the level of care and service we provide to the region. We feel so fortunate to have Black & Veatch and its global business partners supporting our efforts to provide children’s health care,” said Dorene Shipley, Senior Director of Corporate and Hospital Giving at Children’s Mercy.

Following the tournament, Shipley presented Black & Veatch with Children’s Mercy “$1 Million Event Award” in honor of the event raising more than $1 million since the tournament’s inception.
