RIVER LAVANT RE-ALIGNMENT PROJECT
The Challenge
BV was awarded the contract to develop a plan for the re-alignment
of the River Lavant and relieve the city of Chichester from
flooding. Our GIS specialists supported the work of the engineers
and were asked to implement a system to manage information
and produce maps for compulsory purchase orders.
Our Solution
Hydraulic river and estuary modelling used LIDAR derived Digital
Terrain Models to identify areas at risk from flooding. During
the project, drawings of structures and maps were produced,
as well as 3D models using the MOSS and Vertical Mapper software
packages. Environmental Impact Assessment also occurred as
part of this scheme. Using information on flood risk assessment,
a geo-referenced land ownership database was developed in order
to allow the automated production of over 200 maps for compulsory
purchase orders.
