The challenge
Section 105 of the Water Resources Act (1991) places a duty
on the Environment Agency to "survey matters relating
to floods, including the identification of areas where flood
defence problems are likely".
Our solution
BV acted as lead consultant, helping the Environment Agency
to deliver its statutory obligations. During the delivery of
this project, the development of innovative GIS tools to improve
productivity and quality control, and the partnership working
including a joint Technical Steering Group, contributed to
the successful end result. Advanced flood risk maps for some
of England’s largest and most complex rivers were produced
by ‘Topographic surveying, hydrodynamic modelling and
GIS analysis’. Due to the processed performed, improved
interpretation of terrain and flood models using 3D visualisation
techniques occurred.
