THE MARINE AGGREGATE INFORMATION SYSTEM
MAIS is an innovative and flexible tool for displaying and
analysing all data relevant to the management of marine aggregate
resources

The Challenge
Dredging operators must comply with regulatory demands that
require substantial quantities of data to be analysed. These
tasks were very time-consuming and increasingly difficult to
undertake. An IT solution was needed that could streamlines
previously time-consuming tasks by providing the tools to capture,
store, analyse and display large quantities of data, and create
custom reports.
Our Solution
MAIS is a desktop GIS for the marine aggregate industry allowing
the integration of a wide and diverse set of data. These data
include licence areas, vessel tracks, grading analyses, bathymetric
surveys, grab and vibrocore analyses. MAIS helps dredging operators
comply with increasingly onerous regulatory demands and streamlines
previously time-consuming tasks by providing the tools to capture,
store, analyse and display large quantities of data and create
custom reports.
Dredging operations can be closely monitored by importing
GPS recorded vessel tracks from industry standard formats and
overlaying on a wide variety of data sets. This gives resource
managers a full information resource from which the lateral
and vertical extent of sand and gravel reserves can be controlled.
Tools are provided to allow the spatial and temporal aspects
of a resources volume depletion to be monitored. Digital Admiralty
Charts are seamlessly embedded within the application to give
high quality base mapping for any area in the world.
