HONG KONG DREDGING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
The Challenge
The Hong Kong Electric Company needed to know the effects
of dredging in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, to take account of
sediment movement and deposition.
The Solution
We first scanned, georegistered and re-projected a large number
of Admiralty charts so that they could be digitized into our
GIS ; the contours were used to create a grid of depths that
could be used in a wave refraction model to assess sediment
movement and deposition. We also used the GIS to visualise
the channel in three dimensions so that the company could plan
ahead with certainty as to cost and effort.
