The Challenge
To create a biosolids management information system for supporting
regulated sludge disposal in the UK.
Our Solution
Originally developed for the US market, BioEDGE was customised
for United Utilities to meet their specific needs and the UK’s
regulatory requirements. BioEDGE UK enables sludge movements
to be recorded and tracked from a Waste Water Treatment Works
to its final destination – normally agricultural land.
By linking analytical data to individual sludge movements the
system provides a complete audit trail of the chemical and
biological loading at the destination site.
Biosolids Recycling Managers are able to define regulatory
and internal compliance limits and monitor compliance through
on-screen alerts and standard reports.
As part of implementing the system at United Utilities, we
migrated 10 years of historic data (> 320,000 separate records)
from their existing system, retaining referential links and
data integrity. During the migration we were able to add significant
value to historical data by following a comprehensive data
cleaning process.
BioEDGE UK is integrated with the United Utilities laboratory
sampling system so that sample results are automatically uploaded
into the database and tested for compliance. The interface
software also performs a number of complex checks on the incoming
data, providing an important quality control on the entire
sampling and analysis process.
